Practice Series

The Art of Meditation Practice Series are 1-hour weekly practice sessions of meditation, interpersonal practice and study, held seasonally over the course of 11 weeks.

Through the practice of Zen meditation, the wisdom of ancient and modern teachings, and a community of wholehearted practitioners, these series will be an anchor to your week and an inspiration to engage fully and freshly with the world around you. With guidance from Lisa Genki Gibson Sensei and Brooke Teisui McNamara Sensei, teachers in the Soto Zen lineage of Diane Musho Hamilton Roshi, these offerings will accompany you throughout the year to awaken to the vastness of who you are, and to enact this wisdom and compassion in your daily life.

“Much of the journey is about the ways we work with our attention, because attention gives us more life… Attention is the most basic form of love: through it we bless and are blessed. When we attend to the interior life, we also connect with what surrounds us.”

Art of Meditation Practice Series is anchored in practices and perspectives from the Zen tradition, enriched by explorations in interpersonal skills, that all point us to  recognize that there is fundamentally no separation between ourselves and others. This is a space to directly discover the truth of who you are, and to manifest this insight naturally and uniquely on and off your cushion.

Each week we meet for one brief but potent hour online. Together we meditate for 30 minutes, and spend the other 30 minutes exploring teachings, discussion, and connection around the profound, simple, and wild practice of Zen meditation. We look forward to offering a warm, strong container for you to come practice meditation in community with us, simply sitting as our whole selves so that we might respond freshly with wisdom and compassion to each moment.

Ten thousand flowers in spring, the moon in autumn,
a cool breeze in summer, snow in winter.
If your mind isn't clouded by unnecessary things,
this is the best season of your life.
